SupportThe support we offer is largely 1 to 1 in nature & is based around a weekly visit to our Sheffield office. With regard to literacy support, we use programmes that provide a synthetic phonics approach. This is a back to basics method which ensures that every aspect is thoroughly learnt and consolidated before moving onto the next stage. Consolidation requires repetition and reinforcement and it is the lack of opportunity to properly consolidate learning that causes a number of problems for many children & adults. Our direction and your commitment will ensure that progress is made but just as importantly, that it is maintained. There will also be an element of multi sensory learning. This approach recognises that some people do not use particular streams of information as efficiently as others e.g. learns information more easily if it is heard rather than seen, or learns by doing rather than listening etc. The multi sensory approach combines hearing, seeing and doing whilst learning, thereby increasing the individual’s opportunity to learn in a way that is most appropriate to their strengths. Practice between visits to the office is an important element of the overall programme. This provides the degree of repetition and reinforcement that helps to accelerate and sustain progress. The home practice will take 15 minutes or so for three days a week. (This is not compulsory but is highly recommended). The cost of the programme is £20 per session (approx 50 minutes). The time taken to progress through the programme will vary dependent upon starting point (degree of difficulty) and amount of practice performed at home. In ball park terms, you should be thinking in terms of a thirty week programme. Sens-Ability programme offers 1 to 1 support and is centred on a weekly (50 minute) visit to the Sheffield office. The programme uses the principles of sensory integration to bring about lasting improvements in areas such as fine/gross motor skill, co-ordination, balance, posture and manual dexterity etc. The programme uses gentle structured physical movements or exercises that challenge the sensory system and encourage development of appropriate skills. Practice at home between visits is an important element, the repetition providing the sensory feedback that is essential to progress. The programme costs £20 per visit & some basic equipment may need to be purchased (approx £40) for home use. In terms of programme length, this will vary but a time scale of 12-20 weeks would be typical. For more information click on Sens-Ability or please call or email: 075336 57728 info@dyslexiaawareness.co.uk CURE Please note that in all cases we are not talking about a ‘cure’. This would be both inaccurate and inappropriate. Our aim is real improvement in the individual’s academic and/or physical performance so that learning occurs more naturally and easily. The ultimate goal is that their performance more clearly reflects their underlying ability. |
