Support The support we offer is largely 1 to 1 in nature & is based around a weekly visit to our Sheffield office. With regard to literacy support, we use programmes that provide a synthetic phonics approach. This is a back to basics method which ensures that every aspect is thoroughly learnt and consolidated before moving onto the next stage. Consolidation requires repetition and reinforcement and it is the lack of opportunity to properly consolidate learning that causes a number of problems for many children & adults. Our direction and your commitment will ensure that progress is made but just as importantly, that it is maintained.
There will also be an element of multi sensory learning. This approach recognises that some people do not use particular streams of information as efficiently as others e.g. learns information more easily if it is heard rather than seen, or learns by doing rather than listening etc. The multi sensory approach combines hearing, seeing and doing whilst learning, thereby increasing the individual’s opportunity to learn in a way that is most appropriate to their strengths.
Practice between visits to the office is an important element of the overall programme. This provides the degree of repetition and reinforcement that helps to accelerate and sustain progress. The home practice will take 15 minutes or so for three days a week. (This is not compulsory but is highly recommended).
The cost of the programme is £20 per session (approx 40 minutes). The time taken to progress through the programme will vary dependent upon starting point (degree of difficulty) and amount of practice performed at home.
